WHAT IS INVISALIGN®?

Invisalign® is 100% customized to your unique orthodontic requirements. Each aligner is custom-made out of clear, smooth and flexible SmartTrack® material that is not only comfortable to wear around the clock, but is virtually invisible. Using high-tech software and the iTero® Element 3D digital scanner, Holbert Family Orthodontics can create a more precise digital impression of your teeth and oral structures, which means a more accurate clear aligner treatment. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements Dr. Holbert plans out for you.

The clear aligner system is a great treatment option to correct mild to moderate cases of overcrowding, overbite, underbite and gaps between teeth. Although it is more discreet than traditional braces, it requires dedication on the part of the patient and it should be worn exactly as prescribed. In general, aligners need to be worn at least 22 hours a day to be the most effective and produce optimal smile results.

Cleaning Tips for Invisalign®

If you have started treatment using the clear aligner system, then you are well on your way to a beautiful smile. At Holbert Family Orthodontics, we want all of our patients to have the best outcome with any orthodontic treatment; therefore, we offer some important suggestions on how to keep your aligners clean and clear. Good oral hygiene habits and a regular cleaning routine will keep your aligners in peak condition during treatment.

DO’S DURING INVISALIGN® TREATMENT

  • Aligners should be cleaned twice daily during your regular hygiene routine of brushing your teeth.

  • Gently brush your aligners with a small amount of toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush to minimize any bacteria build-up. Brushing too vigorously may scratch or mar the surface of the aligner and it will appear less clear.

  • Rinse aligners under cool water each time you remove them to minimize the build-up of dried saliva.

  • Ideally, clean aligners should be placed on clean teeth. Removing excess food particles will help your aligners fit properly on your teeth.

  • When you are eating or not using your aligners, place them in the case that will be provided to you by Holbert Family Orthodontics.

  • You may also soak your aligners each day in an approved solution (ask Dr. Holbert) to keep them looking and smelling their best.

DON’TS DURING INVISALIGN® TREATMENT

  • Don’t leave your clear aligners sitting out in the open as it increases the chance of misplacement or damage.

  • Don’t throw away your aligners when you receive the new set. Keep old aligners in case you damage or lose a current aligner.

  • Don’t eat or drink (anything other than water) with aligners in your mouth. The trays are easily stained by dark liquids such as coffee or Gatorade and they can be easily damaged during the forces of chewing.

  • Avoid soaking aligners in mouthwash as it may discolor them as well as denture cleaner as it is abrasive to the finish of the aligners.
